Exam Regulations

DAY, DATE AND TIME OF EXAMINATIONS
The day, date and time of all examinations is at the discretion of the Teacher/Tutor or Supervisor. This allows the school to choose a time that suits their schedule.

ORDERING

  • Only one week’s notice is generally required when ordering examination papers. These may be ordered by Post, Phone, Fax, E-mail or through our website.

  • Teachers/Tutors should only order examinations when the candidates are ready to sit for the examination. It is not acceptable to order examination papers too far in advance of the actual examination date.
  • The Board would encourage Teachers to be as accurate as possible when ordering the number of examination papers they require.

  • It is expected that unused examination papers would be returned to the Board.

  • It can happen from time to time that Teachers/Tutors order examination papers and then discover that they are not required. The Board understands how this situation can arise. We would expect, however, to be notified of such a situation and that the unused examination papers are returned to the Board.

  • Minimum numbers of candidates are required before any examination can be held.
There is a limit to the number of different examination papers available at each level in any particular year. Specific details can be obtained by contacting the Board.
Sample papers forwarded to the school or drawn down from our website may not be used as an actual examination paper.
Alternatively, papers ordered for examination purposes may not be used as sample papers.

SUPERVISION

  • Teachers/Tutors or Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that all examinations are held under normal examination procedures.

  • The Supervisor of the examination must complete a Declaration Form to this effect.
  • The Teacher, Tutor or external Supervisor may supervise the examination.

PROCEDURE FOR EXAMINATIONS

  • The worked papers must be forwarded to the Board by the first available post after the examination/s have been completed.

  • The Board has the right to query a situation where there is a significant delay in returning worked scripts. A reasonable explanation for the delay should be given in such circumstances.
  • On occasions, the Board comes across an irregularity when correcting worked scripts. Frequently, this irregularity arises at the print out stage of the examination. It is the practice of the Board to contact the Teacher involved. The Teacher is expected to investigate the cause of the irregularity and report to the Board. The Board will not certify in situations where intentional collaboration has occurred.
  • Fees must be paid when returning the worked scripts.
  • Teachers should ensure that all ‘Declaration Forms’ are completed fully and returned to the Board. The Board reserves the right to query if this matter is not attended to.

RESULTS

  • The Board will attempt to have the results and certificates forwarded to the school within three weeks of returning the worked scripts.
  • Papers of the unsuccessful candidates will be returned to the Teacher/Tutor.
